What is E-Paper? Electronic paper, e-paper and electronic ink are a range of display technologies which are designed to mimic the appearance of ordinary ink on paper. Unlike conventional backlit flat panel displays, electronic paper displays reflect light like ordinary paper. Many of the technologies are capable of holding text and images indefinitely without drawing electricity, while allowing the image to be changed later. Flexible electronic paper is possible, making use of a plastic substrate and plastic electronics for the backplane of the display.

1.44-inch
The smallest of Pervasive Displays' (PDI) standard products is the 1.44" panel. With a resolution of 128x96 resolution (111dpi) this panel is ideally suited for electronic shelf labels. For such a small display, the resolution is relatively high and power requirements are quite low at only 20 milliamps per update. Like the rest of PDI's e-paper display, the product requires no power to maintain an image on the screen.

2-inch monochrome display
This 2", 200x96 resolution (111dpi) panel is popular for electronic shelf labels, medical devices, and mobile applications. Good graphic resolution, high readability and super power requirements (20 milliamps per update).

2-inch with area color
The same 2" panel offers optional pre-printed highlight colors for added emphasis. The color graphics are permanently visible, but can be changed to black by activating the e-paper black behind the color printing. The low-cost method for incorporating colors provides the ability to increase apparent brightness of the color graphic.

2.7-inch wide-aspect panel
The 2.7" panel has resolution of 264 x 176 (117 dpi). It is ideal for mobile devices requiring slightly larger and higher-resolution displays or electronic price tags for higher-end data rich products. The already rugged display can be further enhanced by optical bonded by Pervasive Displays's parent company Chilin Technology.

3-inch QVGA display panel
The 3" QVGA has a square-like design with a resolution of 320x240 (133dpi). The panel is appropriate for many graphical and data-intensive applications such as industrial equipment displays and logistics identification tags. The panel includes a reference design with the Epson ISIS controller for quicker solutions development.

4.41-inch
The 4.41" panel has a resolution of 400 x 300 (113 dpi) with a contrast ratio of 10:1 thanks to E Ink's Pearl front plane laminate. This product is well suited for point of purchase signs in retail stores, information labels in logistics operations, and other industrial applications, where customers might choose to add a touchscreen interface.

7.4-inch mono display panel
This 7.4" panel has a resolution of 480 x 320 (126dpi) and is intended for higher visibility, graphic intensive applications. 8.1-inch mono display panel
This 8.1" panel provides XGA resolution (1024 x 768) – the minimum today for web browser displays. With its rough dimensions of 7” x 5” and its high resolution (159 pdi), these panels are well suited for specialty-use readers. Because the E Ink imaging film is so easy to read indoors and outdoors, this panel makes an excellent display in products whose viewers are highly mobile.

|
10.2-inch
PDI's largest current product, the 10.2" panel, also provides the highest resolution at 1280 x 1040 (160 dpi). The large size and 5:4 aspect ratio align well with the requirements of medical charts, room calendars, outdoor navigators, and electronic bulletins. PDI does intend to produce even larger panel sizes once the demand is clear.
